As 16-year-old students who 's been through
the ups and downs of the education system, we feel like it's important to talk
about the things that just aren't working. We've noticed some serious flaws
that make school feel like a drag rather than an exciting place to learn. Let
us tell you a little bit further about why our school system needs a serious
makeover.
1.
Too Much Focus on Tests
We seriously need to talk about the
obsession with tests. It feels like our worth as students is based solely on
how well we perform on exams. But what about our creativity, problem solving
skills, and critical thinking? School should be about exploring our passions
and developing skills beyond just memorizing facts. Why don’t we just focus on
the bigger picture and dive in to our individual talents.
2.
Ignoring Different Learning Styles
“Raise your hand” if you've ever felt
frustrated because the teaching methods just don't work for you. We all learn
differently, and it's time for schools to recognize that. Some of us thrive in
hands-on activities, while others prefer reading or visual aids. Let's embrace
personalized learning approaches that can bring us to our unique strengths and
interests. Learning should be fun and engaging for everyone, don’t you think?
3.
Not Much of Highlights to Real World Skills
Don't you sometimes wonder why we spend
so much time studying things that seem irrelevant to our future? I mean, sure,
maths are important, but what about practical skills like financial literacy,
communication, and problem-solving? We need to bridge the gap between what we
learn in school and the skills we'll actually need as adults. Let's bring real life
scenarios into the classroom and prepare ourselves for the real world.
4.
Creativity?
We feel like our creativity is being
squashed by the system. It's time to break free from the never ending
worksheets and standardized assignments. We have so much to offer beyond the
very restricted information we earn from school. We should encourage more
project based learning, where we can unleash our imaginations, work
collaboratively, and think outside the box. To be fair, the Indonesian
government has begun a similar program as said and we feel like they’re champs
for doing so.
In a nutshell, our school system needs a
major makeover. By shifting the focus from test scores to a more personalized
approach, embracing different learning styles, incorporating real world skills,
and nurturing creativity, we can create an educational environment where we can
truly thrive. It's time to make school a place where we feel excited to learn,
where our individuality is celebrated, and where we're prepared for the
adventures that lie ahead.
